LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The wife of the Anambra state governor, Nonye Soludo, has initiated an Organic Garden Competition targeting secondary schools across the state.
Launched during a ceremony in Awka, the competition aims to spark interest in food production and farming among students, fostering a deeper understanding of agricultural practices and healthy food choices.
Addressing Healthy Living Teacher Ambassadors, Mrs. Soludo emphasized the importance of organic farming, highlighting its reliance on natural methods and resources.

The competition, integral to the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Campaign, seeks to promote health consciousness, organic agriculture, food safety, and sustainable living.
Participating schools will receive vegetable seeds to establish their organic gardens, with rewards for the top three gardens at the end of each term.
Mrs. Soludo believes engaging students in agriculture from a young age will cultivate an appreciation for farming and healthy eating habits, contributing to a healthier society.
The state’s commissioner for health, Dr. Afam Obidike, highlighted the educational benefits of the competition, emphasizing its potential to enhance students’ understanding of nutrition.

Chairperson of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu, announced plans for weekly health living lectures in schools to promote healthy lifestyles among students.
The program concluded with the distribution of seeds, including okro, carrot, pepper, tomatoes, watermelon, and cucumber, to school teachers, marking the beginning of their journey towards establishing school gardens.
