ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- In response to the rising security challenges across the nation, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has implemented a policy to refrain from posting corps members to states categorized as unsafe, according to Minister of Youth, Jamila Ibrahim.
The minister made this revelation during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
Expressing concerns about the safety of corps members, she emphasized the scheme’s commitment to prioritizing their security by avoiding placements in volatile regions.
“As an immediate intervention of the government and the NYSC as an agency, we have actually stopped posting corps members to the very unsafe states. There are states we have not been posting corps members to, to ensure their safety,” Ibrahim affirmed.

Highlighting the collaborative nature of security matters, Ibrahim acknowledged the involvement of various government agencies in ensuring the well-being of corps members. She stressed the importance of working in tandem with security outlets to guarantee their safety.
“We are also working on group transportation strategies for them to ensure that they are transported to and from camps safely and to their destinations,” the minister added.
In addressing broader issues, Ibrahim disclosed that the Federal Government is in the process of reforming the NYSC scheme to align with current national realities, particularly focusing on the remuneration of corps members.
“When it comes to remuneration, we are looking at the holistic funding of the NYSC. We have announced a reform of the NYSC scheme itself.
“The reforms will transform the NYSC into a revenue-generating agency and prepare corps members for the job market,” she explained.
