ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- In a recent interview, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike expressed his concerns over the prevailing insecurity in Abuja, blaming certain politicians for orchestrating actions aimed at destabilizing President Tinubu’s government.
Wike, in an interview, pointed fingers at political adversaries, accusing them of deliberately fanning the flames of insecurity in Abuja to undermine the stability of President Bola Tinubu’s government.
Wike emphasized that certain politicians are employing tactics such as creating unnecessary tension and spreading propaganda to erode public confidence in the administration.
“Some politicians are bent on making sure the government does not survive. How do they do it? By creating unnecessary tension, by carrying propaganda that something just happened here; they tell you it has happened 25 times. You must understand how these things work. Those who are blackmailers, who are paid,” Wike asserted during the interview.
Responding to claims that his frequent travels to Rivers State contributed to a lapse in security in Abuja, Wike dismissed the notion and questioned the logic behind such accusations. “Tell me, how does my going home on Friday affect you in terms of insecurity?” he questioned, highlighting the illogical nature of the allegations.

Addressing allegations of distraction due to Rivers politics, Wike defined politics in his own terms. “So the only time of kidnapping is when I am not around or Saturday, so they don’t kidnap Monday to Friday when I am around. These are the things we tell you, so you now see that it is propaganda, that it is blackmail,” he explained.
Governor Wike also took the opportunity to showcase the positive strides his administration has made within the five months in office. He criticized the selective focus on unresolved issues, urging the public to acknowledge the government’s efforts that have yielded positive results.
“How many of you have even come out to commend us that in these five months you have been in the office, we have seen changes? All you do is pick one that has not been solved or appears to be the problem then, you forget the ones that the government has put effort into which has yielded results,” he stated.
In addressing concerns about security measures such as CCTV cameras, Wike highlighted the challenges faced by the government. “When we were discussing CCTV in Abuja, somebody said go and put the cameras, our people will go and vandalize it. Go and put the cameras now on the road; people will in the night and vandalize it,” he remarked, pointing out the complexities in implementing security infrastructure.
Governor Wike concluded by emphasizing the impossibility of eradicating all forms of crime, highlighting the need for a balanced perspective on the issue of insecurity.
“Even in where you are caught, they amputate your leg or they go to prison immediately, there is still crime. So, is it difficult for people to say that because kidnapping happened last night in one or two places, therefore, there is insecurity in the whole of FCT? It is not correct,” he asserted, urging the public to avoid sweeping generalizations about the security situation in Abuja.
