ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- In a proactive move against criminal activities in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC), Jere, and Biu Local Councils, the Borno State Police Command has apprehended 85 suspects, addressing offenses such as sexual assault, conspiracy, homicide, and robbery allegedly committed between 1 October and 31 December, 2023.
The Joint Anti-Vice Unit executed the arrests, leading to the recovery of various exhibits, including Indian hemp, a sword, shisha inhalation pots, and five stolen mobile phones.
Notably, 27 out of the 49 recorded suspects have been convicted, 14 cases are under investigation, and 31 individuals have been charged to court.

The statement by ASP Hahum Daso highlighted the syndicate’s tactics, involving posing as house helps to pilfer mobile phones in Maiduguri and Jere councils.
Additionally, the police apprehended eight suspected Malian gang members during raids in MMC and Jere council communities.
It said one of the suspects, “Saleh confessed to acquiring the weapon from one Abubakar of Kalimbo village, Yobe State, during Christmas and New Year festivities.
“We also arrested eight suspected Malian gang members during a raid of their hideouts in Mairi, Fori, Tashan Bama and Gwange communities of MMC and Jere council,” it said
