ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Nigeria Police Force has refunded more than N80 million, along with other items, reportedly extorted by the Anti-Cyber Crime Unit at the State CID of Rivers State Police Command.
The recipient of the refund is Davidson John Atubi, the Chairman of a pipeline surveillance facility.
Among the returned items are two plasma televisions, gold valued at over N5 million, and a standing fan that were taken from a victim during the alleged extortion.
Human rights activist Israel Joe revealed in an interview with Vanguard that the money and items were returned to him and his team last Friday.

Israel Joe stated, “Almost N89 million in equivalent, two plasma television sets, gold worth over N5 million, and a standing fan taken from the victim’s house were handed over to my team and me on Friday, December 22, 2023, confirmed and released early yesterday.”
Having pursued justice in Port Harcourt and Abuja, Joe expressed gratitude to Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and his team for their just actions and efforts to cleanse the Rivers State Police Command.
He commended the discipline imposed on IPO Emmanuel Eteng and his group for allegedly using the names of top officers, including the IGP, in the extortion scheme.
Joe also urged the newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Tunji Disu, to continue monitoring the activities of unscrupulous policemen, ensuring accountability and preventing such incidents in the future.
