LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Barcelona legend Gerard Pique has opened up about his high-profile breakup with Shakira, shedding light on the challenges he faced amidst the public scrutiny surrounding their separation.
The renowned footballer and international pop sensation announced their split in June 2022, marking the end of an 11-year relationship.
The breakup was marred by allegations of infidelity on Pique’s part, leading to a tumultuous separation.
Shakira publicly accused Pique of betrayal during a difficult period when her father was in intensive care.
Their separation became even more contentious when Shakira released a diss song, in which she lyrically mentioned trading a Ferrari for a Twingo, a nod to her former partner driving an £8,000 Renault Twingo in response.

Pique recently addressed the saga, revealing that he’s unfazed by the public’s perceptions and criticisms. He emphasized that only a fraction of the real story is known to the public.
“If I had given importance to what they say about me now, I would be locked in an apartment, or I would have thrown myself off the sixth floor,” Pique told RAC1.
“The only way to get out of all this alive is to ignore it. I can’t go out every day to deny things that aren’t real.
“I don’t want to talk about it, and I won’t talk about it, but of everything that has happened, people don’t know even 10 percent of what happened.”
Pique has since moved on and made his relationship with girlfriend Clara Chia official with a post on Instagram in January.
Despite the public scrutiny and ongoing dynamics with Shakira, he has focused on various professional endeavors, including his involvement in the development of the Kings League project, which recently expanded with the launch of the Kings League Americas in Mexico, scheduled to commence in January 2024.
