LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Elon Musk has unveiled ‘Grok,’ the debut AI model developed by xAI, a startup he founded after his tenure with the microblogging platform previously known as Twitter.
Grok is designed to compete with tech from industry heavyweights like OpenAI (creator of ChatGPT), Google, and Microsoft.
Notably, it incorporates Musk’s distinctive humor seen in his social media posts on X.
Grok is currently in a testing phase with a select group of users and will exclusively be accessible to X Premium+ subscribers, as per Tesla CEO Musk’s announcement.
xAI recently shared a blog post stating that it is providing early access to the Grok prototype for a limited number of users in the United States before a broader release.

The startup plans to introduce additional features and functionality over the next few months, with users having the option to join a waitlist to experience the new Grok chatbot on the xAI website.
Grok will be accessible through the X platform and as a standalone app, as confirmed by Musk.
Promoted features of the Grok chatbot include real-time information retrieval from X and the capability to offer suggested questions.
However, xAI has cautioned that Grok has a tendency to respond with a touch of humor and a “rebellious streak.”
The chatbot underwent a two-month training period and operates on xAI’s new large language model (LLM) called Grok-1.
Although the development began four months ago, the LLM has gone through multiple iterations and currently demonstrates a 63.2 percent score on the HumanEval coding task.
It also boasts a 73 percent score on the Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU) dataset.
While no specific release date has been provided for Grok’s public availability, Musk has stated that access will be restricted to paying subscribers.
Once made accessible to the general public, X Premium+ subscribers, who pay $16 (approximately Rs. 1,300) per month, will have access to the chatbot through the microblogging platform.
