ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- After four years, Indian law enforcement has successfully arrested a wanted suspect in the murder case of a 35-year-old Nigerian man in Nalasopara, Mumbai.
As reported by The Times of India, the suspect, Kancha, aged 28, was discovered living in the same town under a false identity. This development occurred on Tuesday, 17 October 2023, as confirmed by a crime branch official.
The arrest of Kancha, who also goes by the names Roshan Bechain Mandal and Ashfaq Mohammad Sheikh, brings the total number of individuals in custody in connection with the crime to two, while two others involved remain at large.
The tragic incident unfolded when the lifeless body of Joseph, also known as Chindiniju Amechi Wilson, was found on a road in the Pragati Nagar area of Nalasopara on 16 October 2019.

This horrifying event sparked outrage among fellow Nigerians residing in the vicinity, resulting in vandalism of parked vehicles and a collective demand for justice.
During their investigation, the police identified four men suspected of being involved in the crime and initially arrested Nasir Khan. Subsequently, a charge sheet was filed against him in court, as confirmed by an official from the Vasai crime branch (unit II).
Police received a tip-off indicating that the accused, Kancha, also known as Roshan Mandal, had relocated to Bengaluru six months after the crime and had assumed a new identity.
He was ultimately found residing in Nalasopara under the alias Ashfaq Sheikh, with altered physical features.
Law enforcement authorities have determined that the murder was connected to a drug deal.
