LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – YouTube is introducing a range of features to enhance mobile-based playback and provide tools for creators.
The updates include making it easier for users to adjust playback speed by tapping and holding anywhere on the video player to increase speed to 2x.
YouTube will also indicate the starting point with a vibration when users rewind a video.
A stable volume feature has been introduced to minimize sudden volume fluctuations.
Users can now search for songs by playing, singing, or humming, building upon an August feature that allowed song search by humming.
A screen lock feature for mobile and tablet apps prevents accidental taps and can be unlocked by tapping and holding the lock icon.

YouTube is consolidating the Library tab and account page into a “You” tab, which includes a history of watched videos, playlists, downloads, and purchases, along with account and channel information, making it easier to switch between accounts.
Furthermore, YouTube will highlight the “like” and “subscribe” buttons with a visual cue when a creator mentions them in a video, though it remains unclear whether users can disable this feature.
Additionally, top comments will rotate continuously, and new videos will receive an animation and live video count update for the first 24 hours.
The video description menu on smart TVs has been updated to provide additional details in a vertical menu accessible when users tap the video title.
YouTube’s focus has shifted back to enhancing playback and search, following the recent rollout of AI-powered and Short-focused features.
This includes video summaries, Collab and Q&A features, and a TikTok-like short video feed.
Last month, YouTube added creator tools to help find suitable music for videos and add dubs more easily.
