LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Suspected kidnappers have abducted an Islamic cleric identified as Alfa Fasasi Ola Mejabi and his younger brother while conveying a corpse in Kogi State.

The incident reportedly occurred when the cleric and others were conveying the corpse of the late Chief Imam of Ayegunle Gbede, Sheikh Musa Olorunkemi, from Lokoja to Ayegunle Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of the State for burial.

One of the occupants of the car who escaped abduction disclosed to journalists that the incident occurred at Oshokoshoko, along the Lokoja-Obajana-Kabba road.

He further stated that their car was moving ahead of the vehicle carrying the corpse of the late Sheikh Musa, who died on Sunday morning after a brief illness.

A source disclosed further that the victims’ telephone lines have been switched off since their abduction. The source also added that the kidnappers made contact with the family on Monday, demanding 10 million naira ransom for their release.

Efforts to get the State Police Command’s response to the incident proved abortive as the spokesperson was unavailable at the time of filing this report.

However, the State Security Adviser to the State Government, Jerry Omadora, confirmed the incident and added that the security agents in the State are doing everything possible to rescue them from the Kidnappers’ den.
