LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) Birmingham City CEO Graham Cook has issued an open letter to fans explaining the surprising decision to sack manager John Eustace.
Despite Eustace’s efforts in keeping Birmingham in the Championship last season and their current sixth-place position with 18 points from 11 fixtures, the club decided to part ways with him.
This move has left some fans puzzled, especially as reports suggest that negotiations with Wayne Rooney for him to take over as manager are already in progress.
The club is looking to embark on a new direction, and they see Rooney, who has recently terminated his contract with D.C. United, as the right choice to lead this new chapter.
Birmingham is reportedly prepared to offer Rooney £1.5 million per year for his services, which is three times more than what Eustace used to earn, and discussions are ongoing.

In the letter, Cook expressed his gratitude to Eustace for his hard work, particularly for securing the club’s position in the Sky Bet Championship last year.
Cook also emphasized the ownership’s ambition to make Birmingham City a symbol of sporting excellence and a central part of Birmingham’s community.
He explained that the decision to part ways with Eustace was made due to a misalignment with the club’s leadership, and when such a situation arises, parting ways is often the best solution.
The timing of this decision allows the incoming manager sufficient time to assess the playing staff ahead of the upcoming transfer windows in January and summer.
Negotiations with Wayne Rooney are ongoing, with Birmingham hoping to finalize his appointment by the time domestic action resumes following the international break, according to Sky Sports.
