LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) Jenni Hermoso, following Luis Rubiales’ kiss during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup medal ceremony, has provided her statement to Spanish prosecutors.
In her testimony, Hermoso expressed her discomfort with the incident, emphasizing that it was non-consensual.
Rubiales has since resigned from his position and received a restraining order.
Hermoso described feeling unsupported by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) after the incident and revealed that she had to leave Madrid due to the pressure from people who wanted to harm her.

She questioned why she had to endure repression and isolation when she had done nothing wrong.
Regarding the incident itself, Hermoso explained that after receiving her medal, Rubiales unexpectedly kissed her on the mouth.
She immediately informed her teammates, Alexia Putellas and Irene Paredes, about the incident.
Upon returning to the dressing room, Hermoso decided not to overshadow her teammates’ historic victory and continued to celebrate with them. Rubiales entered the locker room and discussed the ‘kiss’ with her.
Rubiales has been banned from contacting Hermoso and must stay at least 200 meters away from her.
