Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has issued a personal statement about his club Napoli and the viral Tiktok video mocking him for losing a penalty.
The bizarre post on the club’s TikTok account showed footage of Osimhen appealing for the penalty in the goalless draw with Bologna on Sunday.
The clip, which has now been deleted, then showed the Nigeria international missing the spot kick.
Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda had slammed Napoli’s social media post and threatened legal action against the Serie A club.
Five days after, Napoli broke their silence in a statement where they describe the 24-year-old as a ‘treasure of the club’ but with no direct apology forthcoming.
In the statement, Napoli confirmed they rejected a number of offers, insisting those decisions demonstrate how much he is valued by the Serie A champions.

Following the release of the video, Osimhen removed any traces of Napoli from his social media accounts but was back in the side for Wednesday’s game against Udinese.
However, in a statement released by Osimhen on Sunday, 1 October, following the saga, the Nigeria International said, “Coming to the City of Naples in 2020 was a wonderful decision for me. The People of Napoli have shown me so much love and kindness, and I will not allow anyone to come between us”.
“The passion of the People of Naples fuels my fire to always play with my heart and soul, and the love for the badge is unwavering as I wear it with pride”.
“The accusations against People of Naples are untrue. I have a lot of friends that are Napolitans and have become part of my family and everyday life. I appreciate Nigerians and everyone for lending their voices to support and reach out to me”.
“I’m forever grateful. Let’s support unity, respect and understanding. FORZA NAPOLI SEMPRE ⚪️🔵”
