LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A Nigerian man, simply identified as Bolanle, has taken to the micro-blogging platform, X to raise an alarm over the rising rate at which Nigerian marriages fail after couples relocate to the United Kingdom.
He made the observation earlier today, via his X handle @BolanleCole. The post read, “Someone I know sold his two plots of land at HOB at Alagbaka Akure, he sold his 3-bed room house at igoba, he sold his 2013 Camry and 2008 Toyota Corolla just to relocate his wife and his 2 children to Uk Last 2 years (January 2021).
“A couple that was doing very well here in Nigeria and Living happily here in Nija only to relocate to UK within 2years and got separated.
“Now the husband is living in Glasgow while the wife has moved on with her children in Birmingham city.
“Something must be in that Country destroying Nigeria marriages,” Bolanle stated.
Following his post, tweeps have taken to the comments section to give their opinion on his claim.
Attributing the situation to the change of location, @Lanre Sulyman said, “In Nigeria, the husband was the breadwinner, which made the wife stay in the marriage. In the UK, both are working and possibly sharing bills, which made the wife exact her independence.
@TomisinAmoeoja commented, “It’s not about the country of residence, but rather the individuals involved in the marriage using the laws to their personal advantage. Not all Nigerian couples who relocate there have issues.
Blaming the wife, @Aaronjacy, noted that “Nothing is destroying Nigeria marriages in the UK. All this shows that Nigerian women are neither reliable nor marriageable. That’s why they pull off immediately they are placed in that sort of opportunity – where they have power over their spouse. White culture works for whites.
Outraged by their decision to relocate, @adamalalin added,“Someone that has 2013 Camry and 2008 Corolla as 2021 is a confirm big boy, who advised him?”
