LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), of Nigeria, have declared an indefinite strike starting from 3 October.
The President of NLC, Joe Ajaero and the TUC, Festus Osifo made the disclosure, following a joint press briefing held in Abuja earlier today.
Both leaderships have urged Nigerians to stockpile foodstuffs because the strike would shut down economic activities in the country.

According to the communique read by both Presidents, the indefinite strike action, is attributed to the alleged insensitivity of Government to the plights of Nigerians and as a result of the fuel subsidy removal.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong has appealed to the NLC leadership to reconsider their decision of the planned strike, assuring them that the Federal Government is determined to address the concerns raised.
The minister also noted that one of the major demands of the NLC in their last meeting has been met, which has to do with the release of the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport workers.
A statement signed by the spokesman of the ministry, Olajide Oshundu, urged the workers’ unions to give the Government a little more time to address other issues.
