LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Erling Haaland has claimed the esteemed Men’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, marking his exceptional achievements in his inaugural season with Manchester City.
The Norwegian striker’s incredible feat of netting 52 goals last season, instrumental in Manchester City securing a remarkable treble, has earned him recognition from his fellow professionals.
Haaland accepted the award at the Lowry Theatre in Manchester, triumphing over stiff competition including Harry Kane, the Premier League’s second-top scorer after Haaland himself, as well as his City teammates Kevin De Bruyne and John Stones, and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.
Haaland’s Premier League debut season saw him score 36 goals, surpassing the long-standing record set by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer in the 1993–94 and 1994–95 campaigns, which had more matches (42 instead of 38).
