LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has scheduled an extraordinary general assembly meeting in response to the incident involving Jennifer Hermoso and Luis Rubiales.
This assembly follows closely after Spain’s triumphant 1-0 victory in the 2023 Women’s World Cup final, where Hermoso was kissed by Rubiales while she was collecting the trophy at Stadium Australia.
The aftermath of this incident has sparked calls for the 46-year-old Rubiales to be removed from his position, and the details of the emergency meeting were disclosed earlier today.
A statement issued by the RFEF reads, “The Royal Spanish Football Federation has urgently convened an Extraordinary General Assembly for next Friday, August 25, commencing at 12 noon, at the Ciudad del Fútbol de las Rozas headquarters.

Additionally, in light of the recent developments during the award presentation for the Women’s World Cup won by the Spanish National Team last Sunday in Sydney, we want to inform you that the Federation’s internal proceedings concerning matters of integrity are open, alongside all other relevant protocols.”
The incident has cast a shadow over what should have been a celebratory moment for Spain, causing controversy within the country’s football federation.
Notably, other prominent figures in the sport, such as USWNT star Megan Rapinoe, have criticized the actions of the Spanish FA official.
As the situation unfolds, the outcome of Rubiales’ actions remains uncertain, once again placing Spanish football in the midst of controversy during a time when celebrations and happiness were anticipated.
