LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A 27-year-old man, Wasiu Akingbola, has been arraigned before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Ogba by the Lagos State Police Command for setting a Police station on fire.
Akingbola is facing a four-count charge including assault, arson, inflicting bodily harm, and membership in a secret cult.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Kokoye Olusegun, revealed that the defendant, alongside accomplices still at large, allegedly committed these offenses on 29 May.
According to the prosecutor, the incident took place around 3 am at the Oregun Police Post situated in the Oregun Ikeja region of Lagos.

Inspector Olusegun informed the court that Akingbola, along with approximately 15 individuals affiliated with the Supreme Eiye Confraternity, initiated an attack on the police post.
The defendant and his associates reportedly demanded the release of Inspector Kabiru from the officer on duty, Inspector Eche Emmanuel. When informed that Inspector Kabiru was not stationed at the outpost, the hoodlums purportedly assaulted the on-duty officer, ignited a fire at the Police outpost, and subsequently fled.
It was further disclosed that Akingbola was apprehended at the Alausa Police Station for a separate matter. His recognition by the officer on duty at the Oregun outpost led to his arrest, and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) was alerted.
The charges pressed against the suspect contravene Sections 411, 170, 173/174 (b), 341 (a), and 2(3)(a)(b)(c)(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant’s plea was not taken during the court proceedings. Magistrate Mrs. Sakirat Obasa adjourned the case till 25 September, 2023, for advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
