LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A twenty-year-old man, Lawal Hammed, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for unlawfully having canal knowledge of an 11-year-old girl.
The arrest was made, following a complaint lodged by a parent that Hammed, of 5, ABA Quarters, Agbowa Road in Aiyepe-Ijebu area of the State, willfully and unlawfully had canal knowledge of his 11-year-old daughter inside his bathroom.
According to the command, the incident, which was reported as another case of defilement, was lodged at Odogbolu Division in Ogun State.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), of the State, SP Omolola Odutola, said the parent further alleged that the suspect had been harassing his daughter sexually for a long time, “but he did not mention what steps he took to ward off the suspect from the girl.”

Odutola disclosed that the underaged victim had been taken to the Odogbolu General Hospital for medical examination, emotional therapy and counselling.
“The law of defilement in Nigeria is trite, Section 218 of the Criminal Code Act. The section states that any person who has unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 13 years is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for life. This is for the determination of the court.
“As soon as investigation is concluded, the suspect, 20-year-old Hammed, who is deemed to know the law by virtue of being above 18yrs, will be charged to Court on the strength of material evidence from forensic examination,” Odutola said.
Worried by the reports of more than four defilement cases in a week, the State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has called on parents and guardians to embrace authoritative and supporting parenting skills which, in the long run, will build obedience, discipline, and confidence in their children and wards.
