ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Mothers On Mission International, a Non-Governmental Organization, has highlighted the crucial significance of women across all facets of national existence.
The organization underscored that women play a pivotal role in fostering public safety, security, stability, and development in Nigeria, particularly in the areas of peace and security.
This assertion was emphasized by Ambassador Pastor Vivian Anyanwu, the National Coordinator of Mothers on Mission International, during a National Workshop on Women, Peace, and Security, on Wednesday.
The workshop aimed to set the agenda for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in this domain.
Anyanwu stressed that the undeniable importance of women’s involvement in various roles such as mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, and professionals cannot be overstated.

Their engagement in peace, security, and development is widely recognized and serves as a cornerstone for promoting public welfare, security, and overall progress in Nigeria.
“Women’s unparalleled participation in conflict prevention, resolution, peace, and security in both developed and developing democracies has been unprecedented,” she stated.
To address this vital role, the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 was established to advance women’s active participation in peace processes and security governance.
Despite these notable advancements, the challenge remains to increase women’s participation in peace, security, and development efforts, according to Anyanwu.
She outlined challenges faced by women’s participation in these crucial areas, which encompass the safeguarding of women and girls’ rights, increased representation in the security sector and governance, a shift away from relying solely on physical criteria for participation, tailored legislation to expand their roles, and policies that encourage greater female involvement.
In response to these challenges, Mothers on Mission International orchestrated a national workshop on Women, Peace, and Security, aiming to establish an agenda for the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The workshop’s objectives include stimulating discourse on the role of women in peace, security, and development, devising policy priorities, and enhancing accountability for implementing commitments related to Women, Peace, and Security in Nigeria.
“We have brought together professionals from civil society, media, women and community-based groups, as well as distinguished individuals from various walks of life, to engage in thoughtful discussions and ensure the realization of these objectives,” Anyanwu affirmed.
She expressed confidence that Mothers on Mission International’s intervention would substantially contribute to shaping national policy priorities under the new administration, particularly concerning Women, Peace, and Security.
