LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-England star Lauren James has apologized for stepping on Michelle Alozie of Nigeria and promised to remember her World Cup expulsion.
James was dismissed in the 87th minute of Monday’s last-16 match between England and Nigeria, which the Lionesses finally won on penalties.
The 21-year-old is nervously awaiting word on whether she will play in the World Cup again after receiving a red card. FIFA has not yet rendered a verdict.
Despite her moment of lunacy, Alozie tweeted “all respect” to James, and the winger responded.
James said in her reply on social media: “All my love and respect to you. I am sorry for what happened.
“Also, for our England fans and my teammates, playing with and for you is my greatest honour, and I promise to learn from my experience.”

The English Football Association added in an official statement: “Lauren is really sorry for her actions that led to the red card and is full of remorse. It is wholly out of character for her.
“We will be supporting Lauren throughout and will be putting forward representation on her behalf. We fully respect FIFA’s disciplinary process.”
Despite making just three starts at the Women’s World Cup, James has racked up three goals and three assists. However, owing to a ban, she will be out for their quarterfinal match against Colombia.
The World Cup automatically imposes a one-match suspension for players who receive red cards, although further games might be added upon review. In the next few days, James will learn what happened to her.
Prior to playing Colombia in their World Cup matchup in Sydney on August 12, England and James will wait for FIFA to make a definitive judgment.
