ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – A United Kingdom court has issued a £28 million payment order against Bhadresh Gohil, former lawyer of James Ibori, the former Governor of Delta State, for his involvement in concealing unlawfully acquired funds.
In 2010, Bhadresh Gohil, an Indian national, was convicted on 13 counts of money laundering and other related offenses for his role in assisting Ibori in hiding proceeds from criminal activities.
He received a ten-year prison sentence and has served half of it.

Daily Post reports that on Monday, the court mandated Gohil to make a payment of over £28 million, warning of an additional six-year sentence if he fails to comply.
This verdict follows another recent ruling in which Ibori was directed to pay £101.5 million ($130 million) or face an eight-year sentence.
Despite the UK court’s decision, Ibori has declared his intention to appeal the ruling
