LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Manchester City have submitted a €100 million (£86 million) bid for RB Leipzig star Josko Gvardiol, making him the most expensive defender in the world.
All summer long, City has been mentioned in connection with Gvardiol. Earlier this summer, a proposal from City for £77 million ($99 million) was turned down.
Sport Bild reports that an offer of £77 million plus £9 million ($10 million) in add-ons has been made in order to satisfy Leipzig’s demand for £86 million.
Leipzig has not yet accepted the deal even though it is rumored that Gvardiol would join City this summer because they want the £9 million add-ons to incorporate more sensible ambitions.

He would surpass Harry Maguire, who transferred from Leicester City to Manchester United for a total of £80 million ($97 million), if he made the move, and become the most expensive defender in the world.
Having already lost Dominik Szoboszlai to Liverpool, Leipzig are not under any pressure to sell Gvardiol. In addition, he has a €112 million (£96 million/$124 million) release clause in his contract that will come into effect next summer, so the team may try to hold onto him until then.
Prior to the start of their most recent Premier League season on August 11 at Burnley, City will want to finalize a deal for Gvardiol.
