LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has reportedly written to the State House of Assembly, seeking an extension of his medical leave.
This was confirmed on Monday, via a letter he sent to the Speaker of the Assembly, where he asked to stay away from Ondo for a lengthier period.
Recall that the ailing Governor earlier handed over affairs of the State to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and embarked on a medical leave.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, confirmed the receipt of the letter in Akure, the State capital.
In his letter, Governor Akeredolu explained that the request for an extension was based on medical advice, emphasizing the need for him to rest adequately after his recovery.

Upon receiving the letter on behalf of the other lawmakers, the Speaker acknowledged that the Governor’s action was in accordance with Section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
Speaker Oladiji expressed gratitude to God for the governor’s speedy recovery and expressed optimism that he would soon resume his duties.
Governor Akeredolu stated in the letter that his Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, would continue to act as the governor until a written declaration states otherwise.
This development has raised concerns over the Governor’s health, because, according to reports, important state actors are jockeying for control in his absence.
