LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – More than 10 million people have signed up for Threads, Meta’s rival to Twitter, within the first few hours of its launch, the company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg, reveals.
“10 million sign-ups in seven hours,” Zuckerberg wrote on his official Threads earlier today.
Threads is the biggest rival yet to Elon Musk-owned Twitter, which has seen a series of potential competitors emerge but yet to replace it despite the struggles.
Those quick to join the new Meta platform included celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez and prominent politicians such as Democratic US representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Users can log in using their Instagram credentials and follow the same accounts, potentially making it an easy addition to existing habits for Instagram’s more than 2 billion monthly active users.
In an official statement announcing the platform’s launch, Meta said, “Our vision with Threads is to take what Instagram does best and expand that to text, creating a positive and creative space to express your ideas.”
On Threads, he wrote: “It’ll take some time, but I think there should be a public conversations app with 1 billion+ people on it. Twitter has had the opportunity to do this but hasn’t nailed it. Hopefully, we will.”
“Twitter has said it has more than 200 million daily users. ‘Be kind’.”
