ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Operatives of Amotekun and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) were engaged in a gun duel in Osogbo, the state capital, over a traffic law violation.
It was gathered that the Immigration Officer was detained at the Amotekun office at the Government House Annex for insulting the Amotekun boss, who violated traffic law.
Sources revealed that the convoy of the Amotekun Corps-Commandant, Brigadier General Bashir Adewimbi (rtd) passed through the Olaiya axis, violated the traffic regulations, and endangered the Immigration officer who was on a bike.
The officer, however, felt agitated over dangerous driving and trailed them to their base, where he insulted the convoy drivers and their boss.

This angered Adewimbi, who immediately instructed that the Immigration officer be detained.
However, the officer had called for reinforcement before he was forcefully detained.
Upon the arrival of his colleagues, a gun duel ensued, causing tension and forcing shop owners to run to safety.
When contacted, General Adewimbi said: “It is surprising that the Immigration officers escalated a case of indiscipline to the level of gunfire exchange.
“It is surprising that they could react in that manner to an act of insubordination by a personnel of the service. The man rode on a motorcycle trailing my convoy from Olaiya into our command headquarters.

“He even accosted me after alighting from the vehicle, insulting me. I instructed that he be detained, and I put a call to the State Comptroller and some other senior officers of the command, but no one responded.
“While we were at a management meeting, sounds of gunshots rented the air, and they claimed they came for a peace meeting. It is very unfortunate that they can invade our command in such a manner.”
General Adewimbi added further that both parties had been invited by the Police, and the matter thoroughly discussed before the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
However, efforts to get the NIS reaction were unsuccessful as the spokesperson’s phone was switched off.
