Idris Saleh, a former commissioner for works and infrastructure during the administration of Abdullahi Ganduje, has been arrested by the Kano Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) alongside five others.

The former commissioner, in a report by DailyTrust, was arrested on Monday alongside five others over alleged involvement in N1 billion fraud.

TheCable understands that the N1 billion was meant for the rehabilitation of 30 roads and drainages within the Kano metropolis.

The projects for which the money was allocated were reportedly not executed.

The money for the projects was reportedly withdrawn in three portions and paid into three companies’ accounts on 23 April.

Earlier, Muhuyi Magaji, chairman of the Kano anti-graft agency, said the investigation into the alleged fraud case against Ganduje would be re-opened.

Magaji who was sacked by Ganduje during his administration, was reinstated on 21 June, by the newly inaugurated Governor of Kano, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

In October 2018, Ganduje was allegedly captured in a video by an online newspaper while receiving and stuffing bundles of dollars into his pocket.

“We have decided to reopen the case against former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Our agency will conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations and ensure that due process is followed,” Magaji said.
