LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – James Maddison, who will soon be moving from Leicester City to Tottenham for £45 million ($51 million), has removed previous tweets in which he had criticized Spurs.
Tottenham is about to finalize the signing of the Leicester City player after the Championship team accepted a bid of £40 million up front with a potential further £5 million in add-ons.
In contrast, fans discovered two interesting tweets from 2012 and 2013 before his transfer, which have since been deleted from the England international’s account, according to the Daily Mail.
One involved him labeling Gareth Bale, a club legend who played 237 times for Spurs over two spells, a “monkey,” and the other involved him declaring his hate for the north London club.

“I hate Gareth Bale with a passion,” Maddison, who was 15 at the time, tweeted on November 17, 2012, “calm down you monkey, [Jack] Wilshere is 10x better than you chimpanzee.”
Following that, on 10 March, 2013, the 16-year-old wrote: “Hope Luis Suarez crushes Tottenham today, don’t like Spurs! Especially that monkey everyone’s on about!”
When Maddison was a teenager, he was a member of Coventry City’s youth team and made the tweets, which later reappeared on social media after he was first connected to Tottenham.
According to reports, Maddison and Spurs have reached an agreement on terms worth £170,000 a week, and Leicester, who were demoted from the Premier League last season, have given him permission to travel and undergo a medical on Wednesday.
Maddison will finish his summer break next month and then join Ange Postecoglou’s new Tottenham team.
