LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE O NAIJA)-The National Information Technology Development Agency claims to have started preparing the Nigeria Code of Practice on the usage of ChatGPT and other forms of artificial intelligence.
NITDA spokesman Hadiza Umar revealed to our correspondent. Although Nigeria has a national AI policy, according to her, a code of practice is still lacking.
“On AI, as I mentioned earlier, we have drafted the National Artificial Intelligence Policy, which has not yet been approved,” she continued. Additionally, the agency is currently developing the Nigeria code of practice for AI.

“Nigeria cannot adopt the EU and US codes of conduct due to our peculiar situation. But we can leverage on theirs to perfect ours to suit our situation.”
Umar believes that this is significant, particularly in light of the numerous worries expressed on the rising risk of employing AI and the nation’s capacity to handle new technologies, particularly in light of the appearance of ChatGPT by OpenAI.
