America’s Got Talent Season 5 winner, Michael Grimm, has been hospitalized and sedated following a mystery illness last week.
The blues musician is holed up in intensive care as of Wednesday morning, according to his wife Lucie Zolcerva-Grimm.
Taking to Instagram, Lucie shared an update with fans about Grimm’s worrying condition.
In the clip shared with his 7,000 followers on the platform, Lucie said her husband, 44, was looking “sickly” and was behaving in a “fussy” way.
Lucie said Michael, who hails from Mississippi, is finally breathing on his own again but “remains unconscious.”
She said that he will be forced to undergo vocal chord repair after having to rely on a ventilator, which has left him with “no voice.”
In the days leading up to being rushed to the hospital, Michael — who proposed to Lucie during an appearance on “The Ellen Show” in 2010 — was unable to finish his recent live performances.
His wife said he eventually reached a point where he could “barely walk.”
“I rushed him to the ER because I thought something was wrong, like he was having a stroke or something. That wasn’t the case, luckily,” she explained. “Whatever was going on in his body from whatever, toxins I guess, they were going to his brain, he started talking gibberish.”
Michael has been bedridden for more than a week now and is awaiting to undergo physical therapy once he feels better.
“He is improving, so that is good. It’s just taking time,” Lucie added, saying that while he’s no longer relying on a ventilator, he is still sedated.
The crooner found fame after entering “AGT” in 2010, when he went on to win the entire competition with his blues music.
He defeated the show’s favorite, 10-year-old opera singer Jackie Evancho, in the final of the singing contest.
