Nollywood actor, Kunle Remi has broken his silence after being excluded from the list of nominees released by the organizers of Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) 2023.
He was not nominated in any categories despite playing the leading role in the epic film ‘Anikulapo’ which got 16 nominations.
Kunle’s love interest in the movie, Bimbo Ademoye was nominated for Best Actress in a Drama, Movie or TV Series; while Yinka Quadri and Taiwo Hassan made the nomination for Best Supporting Actor (Movie/TV Series); Sola Sobowale was also listed for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama, Movie or TV Series.
The actor’s exclusion from the nomination list has since sparked outrage online with some claiming that he was deliberately neglected.
@ToreraOladeji tweeted: “Let me trend hashtag for Kunle Remi. He was snubbed!! Anikulapo had nomination for the most basic role and THEY FORGOT HIM?? A WHOLE SARO????? KAI”
@Usmanashafe also wrote, “If a movie got nominated for Overall Best movie, it means the lead actor of the movie did something special.
“Kunle Remi’s snub is definitely a punishment for something else totally different from acting
Cos his acting in Anikulapo was in fact worthy of Oscar.”
In another tweet he said: “Anikulapo got 16 nominations and Kunle Remi that was the lead actor in the movie got zero nomination
“Since last year till now, I don’t even think there has been any actor that bodied their role the way Kunle bodied SARO
“AMVCA will soon lose it the way HEADIES lost it.”

In other tweets, @moodlikejasmine said: “There’s something fishy about Kunle Remi not being nominated in the “Best Actor” category for Anikulapo in #AMVCA9 but the movie was nominated in other categories. I don’t know if I’m just being paranoid, but it feels like he’s been boycotted for his exposè on Nedu’s podcast.”
Sharing a video of himself on his Instagram page, Remi appreciated his fans for their concerns while congratulating his colleagues and friends who got nominated.
He wrote: “I have been seeing all the tags after the AMVCA nomination announcement. It would be nonchalant not appreciate the love, calls and messages. Thank you kindred.”
