Ex-President Donald Trump has become the first ex-American President to face criminal charges after being indicted by a Manhattan grand jury.
Trump faces more than 30 counts related to business fraud according to two sources familiar with the case.
The former President who’s recently expressed his intention to run for another term as President, is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
According to CNN, the indictment has been filed under seal and will be announced in the coming days. The charges are not publicly known at this time.
Reports say the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office has been investigating the former President in connection with his alleged role in a hush money payment scheme and cover-up involving adult film star Stormy Daniels that dates to the 2016 presidential election.
Even though grand jury proceedings are secret, a source familiar with the case told CNN that a witness gave about 30 minutes of testimony before it voted to indict Trump.
Trump has since released a statement in response to the indictment claiming that it is “Political persecution and election interference at the highest level in history.”
