ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has berated the Chairman of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Council of Elders, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, over the purported anti-Yoruba comment.

In a viral video trending on social media, Iwuanyanwu was seen calling Yorubas “political rascals” at a town hall meeting, over the outcome of the just concluded general elections.

The Afenifere called on the Ohanaeze Ndigbo to warn Iwuanyanwu to desist from making provocative statements against the Yorubas.

However, the mainstream Yoruba group appealed to the people across the South-West to remain calm.

Afenifere, in a statement issued by its National Organizing Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu, said the foremost Yoruba will reach out to the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, to know its stand on the issue.

The statement reads; “We have since reviewed the video recording of the event and our leadership will be reaching out to the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to seek clarification on why Chief Iwuanyanwu made the comment and whether his view is a reflection of what Ohanaeze Ndigbo indeed think of the Yorubas.

“We hereby call on Ohanaeze to warn the Chief not to insult the Yoruba. We are a proud nation.

“We are a hospitable race. All these should not be interpreted to mean weakness. In fact, it is a sign of being civilized. Enough of the provocation.”
