Atiku Abubakar’s aide, Phrank Shaibu, has criticized Femi Fani-Kayode for calling on United States President Joe Biden to congratulate President-elect Bola Tinubu.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Fani-Kayode, spokesperson of the All Progressive Congress campaign council, had asked Biden to “pick up the phone and add his voice” by congratulating Tinubu for winning the presidential election.
“Whether Joe Biden calls to congratulate him or not Bola Tinubu is the President-elect of the biggest, richest, most populous, most advanced & most enlightened nation in Africa & the Western world’s biggest trading partner on the continent. They need us as much as we need them,” he wrote.
“Yes, the American State Department and the American Ambassador to Nigeria both congratulated Asiwaju. For this, we are eternally grateful & it reflects a measure of respect.
“However, it’s time for Joe to pick up the phone & add his voice. We are a big nation: we deserve no less.”
Reacting in a statement issued on Thursday, Shaibu, the aide to Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, said Fani-Kayode is “shopping for endorsements”.
While describing the demand by Fani-Kayode as the “height of desperation”, Shaibu alleged that the presidential election was not credible.
“Tinubu and his ilk are now running from pillar to post, begging Western powers to recognize Tinubu. This is the height of desperation,” he said.
He added that “several credible media houses locally and internationally, as well as EU observers” have questioned the credibility of the election.
