The parents of a 12-year-old student of Chrisland School, Opebi, Lagos, are demanding justice after she died during the school’s inter-house sports competition on Thursday, 9 February, 2023.
In a video trending online, Mrs. Blessing Adeniran narrated that her daughter, Desola Whitney Adeniran, had attended her school’s inter-house sports, last Thursday, hale and hearty.
The bereaved mother said she was at the event to watch her daughter participate in the march past.
She, however, became worried when she didn’t see her daughter during the march past as well as other sporting events.
Mrs. Adeniran said she decided to go where the students were all kept to check on her child. She said it was while she was there that she was told by a male student that a certain Whitney fainted and had been rushed to the hospital.
She said one of the staff saw her and then told her that Whitney had been rushed to the hospital.
On getting there, she met her daughter’s corpse. She said up till now, the school has not given in full details, what happened to her child.
The mother of the deceased said the school claimed her 12-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest and slumped. She reiterated that her child was not sick and never had any pre-existing heart condition and wonders why she would suffer a cardiac arrest.
Whitney’s mother is demanding the school tell her what really happened to her so she can bury her child in peace.
Dr. Michael Adeyemi Adeniran, the father of 12-year-old Whitney, also narrated what happened on Twitter.
He said the child had no health condition or sickness as of the time the school bus picked her up for the event.
In a Facebook post where he was seeking justice and explanation, he wrote: “To the biggest shock of my life by 1 pm in the afternoon, I got a call from my wife that she was informed that our daughter slumped at the inter-house sport and she was rushed to the clinic….. My wife was at the venue even before the event started. She was never informed or called until they have conveyed our child out of the venue before they informed her.
“On arrival of my wife at the health center where they took my daughter, my daughter was lying dead with her lips black and her tongue black.
“My wife called me urgently, I left my office to the place and found my 12-year-old daughter lying dead on the ground. I asked questions about what happened to my daughter and the school authority could not get me any information as to what happened to my child in their care.
“I gave Chrisland school a healthy vibrant young girl what Chrisland returned to me is a dead child. My entire family is in deep sorrow but the school Authority claimed they know nothing about my daughter’s death and all they know is that my daughter slumped and died.”
Taking to social media, Nigerians questioned why the school was still operating and why parents still have their kids in the house, since the incident with Sylvester Omoroni.
On-air personality, Dotun, said: “There is a thing with all these schools & being so irresponsible. No matter how hard and how you need to protect your school name, can you just honestly be accountable first. tell the parents the truth about their child. Chrisland na Pikin die o. No be fowl o. Una Dey mad ni.”
“First it was a sex tape now murder , smh if LASG don’t close down that school then I know some people are definitely playing politics with these things just like The Oromoni case,” @jfreeze07 weighed in.
Dr. Adanma on her part wrote, “After Sylvester incident, all parents should have withdrawn their kids from Chrisland. They should have protested. Bigot Chrisland School. They kill children. School wey dem suppose shit down. Sylvester and his parents haven’t gotten justice till date… This is wickedness.”
Iris Borah also reacted, writing: “Chrisland school again… God take control.”
Darius Crib said the school is notorious for everything bad.
“That was how they took some kids to Dubai last year and left them unattended. Now their negligence has caused a family to their beloved daughter.
“This time, it will not be swept under the rug.”
@ayoolafelix said the father of the child is not smart. According to the tweep, Mr. Micheal Adeniran is wasting his time tweeting when he should get human rights lawyer, Femi Falana to sue the school.
In his words: “The Father of the Girl NO SMART at all! He’s on Twitter wasting his time when he should get @femifalana_SAN to sue @chrislandinfo ! We go drag case reach Supreme Court & if not Satisfied CHRISLAND go get wotowoto.”
@olunwachukwu tweeted: “If the school is aware of underlying ailment, the school should have excluded her from the inter House sports. This is a weak excuse. God rest her soul, but lessons need to be learnt and justice served.”
