Right Reverend Nkechi Nwosu has been appointed as the first female bishop of The Methodist Church Nigeria, Archdiocese of Kaduna.
Nwosu was ordained on Sunday, 22 January, 2023, by Joseph Nnonah, Archbishop of Kaduna, at the Christ Methodist Cathedral, Jos, Plateau state.
She will serve as Bishop of the Jos diocese.
The church service is to formally give effect to the decision of the biennial Conference of Methodist Church Nigeria that was held in 2022 where Nwosu was elected as the Bishop of Jos.
Members of the Diocese of Jos converged to witness the enthronement service as the Archbishop of Kaduna archdiocese formally ordained Bishop Nwosu to oversee the diocese
In her remarks, Nwosu said God has made all humans equal. She encouraged all Nigerians to always seeks the face of God, especially as the general elections begin on the 25th of February.
“We must all go out there and agree with God, listen to the spirit of God, and do what God said we should do,” the new Bishop stated.
“Do that so that God will use us and anybody he will put on that seat to restore Nigeria to a place of pride in Africa, and the world.”
Speaking with journalists, Nwosu said God is using her ordination to tell the world that it is time to release women to fulfill their destinies.
“God knew that by creating only Adam, He will not be able to bring his heart’s desire, so He had to make the woman to complement him,” NAN quoted her as saying.
“So, for the word of God to reach the end of the world, man must put their hands together to serve God, irrespective of gender, because God is a spirit.
“And when men or women of God in charge of denominations understand this, I believe we will conquer more for the Lord than what we have done.”
With the Enthronement Act administered on the bishop as directed by the conference and in consequence of the will and consent of the Diocese of Jos; the Bishop thereafter officially commenced the spiritual activities as the Bishop of Jos Diocese which she sees as a privilege in the propagation of the gospel without any prejudice.
On the forthcoming general election, Nwosu called on Nigerians to listen to the voice of God who knows the best leader for the country at the moment.
She said God has also given Nigerians power, and that the power is in the permanent voter card (PVC).
