ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Atiku-Okowa presidential campaign council, Anambra State chapter, is pressurizing Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP), presidential candidate, to step down for Atiku Abubakar and his running-mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State.
Mr. Uloka Chukwubuike, the deputy director, media and publicity, Atiku-Okowa campaign council in the state, stated this, adding that the region would wish to align itself with any candidate who doesn’t have a chance on his home soil.
According to him, the easiest and most reliable option for an Igbo person to become president of Nigeria was for Igbo to align with the Atiku-Okowa presidency.
Chukwubuike also advised all supporters of Obi and Labour Party in the South-East to defect to the PDP and support the emergence of Atiku as president of Nigeria, ahead of the election on 25 February.
He expressed happiness that the people of Anambra State have already demonstrated their massive support for Atiku, adding that the turn out of the people when he came for his campaign rally in the state December last year at Alex Ekwueme square, Awka, the state capital was a clear demonstration that the people love him.
The Deputy Director stressed that it would amount to a wrong political decision by the people of South-East to support Obi.
“No region would wish to align itself with any candidate who doesn’t have a chance on his home soil and commands at least 60 per cent of the electorate such has never been the case in our politics and democracy,” Chukwubuike advised.
Leadership reports that a political analyst, Mr. Tony Okafor has dismissed the claims by the Atiku-Okowa campaign group in Anambra State, that the presidential ambition of Obi does not have the support of the majority of the people of the state.
