IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Peace Anyiam-Osigwe who is recognized as one of the pillars of Nollywood, has died.

The founder of Africa Film Academy which organizes AMAA yearly since 2005, died in a hospital in Lagos State.

Ayiam-Osigwe who was also the President of the Association of Movie Producers was reportedly in a coma before she breathed her last.

Her colleague, Obi Emelonye, confirmed her death via his Instagram account on Tuesday.

He shared her picture and wrote: “Thank you and good night dada Peace.”

Nollywood filmmaker Zik Zulu in a tribute written on a Nollywood platform said: “Our President, Peace, has passed. As of Saturday, she was reported to be in a coma at Saint Nicholas. But now her family has confirmed her transition. May the memory of her life be a blessing. Rest in peace, dear Peace.”

But other sources insist that the Anyiam-Osigwe is still in coma and has not been confirmed dead.

The family however, is yet to make an official statement.

She is from the notable Anyiam-Osigwe family in Nkwerre, Imo State, and the only female in a family of eight children.

She has a degree in Law and Political science from Oxford Brookes University.

Last year, during a press conference to unveil plans for the 2023 edition of the awards, Anyiam-Osigwe hinted at her plans to focus more on training young filmmakers.
