IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Nigerian singer and songwriter, Olawale Olofooro also known as Brymo, has been criticized on Twitter for his comment on Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi and Igbo presidency in the country.

Brymo who had publicly endorsed Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a tweet on Thursday, said that it is not advisable to choose Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra.

The singer further stated that the Igbo presidency will remain a pipe dream as long as there is talk about Biafra in the South East.

He wrote: “Well.. no other tribe seems to have a new country yet… as long as their talks by prominent people from Igboland about Biafra an Igbo presidency will be a pipe dream.

“Don’t respect my intelligence nor choices, you are trying to not accept resolve, argue more then… pls …. It is not prudent to elect him yet.

“He may have to vividly organise his home-front to lead rest of us, an Igbo VP first maybe to test the waters with the region is safer.”

His tweets have caused uproar on Twitter, with many dragging him for making offensive remarks about Peter Obi and the Igbo tribe.

Reacting to Brymo’s tweet, Rinu Oduala shared a statement by former president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, “One would expect better from you.

“First, no group is faultless. It is not right for us to be sanctimonious, seeing ourselves as saints & the rest as devils incarnate.

“Such derogatory attitude & mindset do not build any human institution, let alone a nation.” – Obasanjo.”

@eyess46 said he knows the singer from his humble beginnings and the first person that gave Brymo is first music deal is an Igbo man.

“The funny part of the whole write-up is that, the first person that gave @BrymOlawale his first music deal is an IGBO man. He actually cleaned Ibrahim up before the move to Chocolate City.
I know him from way back Okokomaiko!”

Ezeh Val slammed the singer over his tweets. He shared a nude image of the singer from a music video and said: “Brymo came to Lagos, tried Nudity after he failed to make it in music like others yet him no make am…..”

@kolatubosun said: “An unfair burden that no one else has to bear. Like telling Obama in 2008 to fix broken homes in black communities before he could run for office. It’s condescending, and not at all relevant. If a man is qualified, he gets to run for office. End of story.”

@HeisBriggs on his own part said: “Brymo is a fake musician. He doesn’t practice what he preaches with his songs. He pretends to be woke and sings about slavery but he’s the slave himself. He writes like an intelligent man but speaks like a layman. He is just fake, y’all ignore him.”

@kayodebakre view Brymo’s tweets as an insult to Igbo race. He tweeted: “An Igbo VP first? How? 1979, we had a very sound man as VP and he was Igbo. But don’t you think it will s somewhat insultive to say let’s try an Igbo VP first?? Looks to me like an insult.”

@RayoKasali weighed in, writing: “If a tribe of 40M+, who produced our first president 60 years ago and the first indigenous head of the military still has to be tested with a VP slot (that they had like 44 years ago,) then what does that say about smaller ethnicities?

“What does that say about us as a people?

“We’ve all contributed immensely to the catastrophe and beauty we call Nigeria – every single tribe – every one of us.

“It’s so useless to point accusing fingers while playing innocent.

“We either hold ourselves accountable to the ideals of fairness and justice or we are nothing.”

“Please kindly let us know why it’s not prudent to elect Obi yet? Last I know, Obi was a governor for 8 yrs and Asiwaju also did same 8 yrs. What’s ur yardstick to think Obi shld start from VP rather than the president? Obi antecedent speaks for him, he is as qualified as Asiwaju,” @iamleye wrote.
