IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – A Nigerian lady has shared a photo of what became of the new naira note after it was forgotten in a pocket and mistakenly washed.
According to Chinazo whose Twitter handle is @Fluffy_Naz, her sister forgot the N500 in her pocket and washed it.
The 500 Naira note had faded when it became dry.
She wrote: “So my sis forgot the new currency in her pocket and washed it, this is what it turned out to! If rain drenches you and this money is your only hope, you’d be stranded!”
Her tweet has garnered reactions on the social media with some calling her a liar and others blaming the Central Bank of Nigeria and the government for the poorly designed currency.
@chris_d_jerry said: “I can say for sure the 1k stains white so if that could happen then this can definitely happen as well.”
@tomyl104, on his part, noted that “It’s either of two things, either you’re lying or it’s a fake note. I don’t understand why people are like this.”
“It’s neither of the two. When it happens to you or yours, ask them these questions too, Peace,” @Fluffy_Naz replied @tomyl104.
Another tweep asked her if she used bleach or regular detergent.
“Did you use bleach to wash or is it just regular detergent?”
@Fluffy_Naz responded: “Regular detergent”
“You got the engagement u need, Congratulations 🎊,” says King Usiph who assumed she tweeted it for clout.
@Fluffy_Naz replied, “Engagement for what actually? I am not you.”
King Usiph who isn’t one to back down easily responded, “Your face show, your shoe shine. We know you.”
“Mate you know there’s only one way to find out yeah? Get the new notes, try to rub off the colour using a soiled cloth and see if it comes off. Try it before calling her a liar,” @ChrissKelechi weighed in on the back and forth going on between the tweeps.
