Nigerians on Twitter have reacted to the CMS/Mile-2 Blue Line Project inaugurated by Lagos State Governor Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday, 21 December, 2022.
The state Governor test-run the completed phase of one of the Lagos Blue Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) scheme (Marina-Mile 2).
The test run moved from the National Theatre Station in Iganmu to Marina and back.
The LRMT Blue Line is a 27-kilometre rail system from Marina to Okokomaiko, with the construction divided into phases for ease of implementation and is expected to move more than 500,000 passengers when fully completed.
The completion of the infrastructure, which is one of the six rail lines and monorail prescribed for Lagos in the state’s Strategic Transport Master Plan (STMP), is in fulfilment of the promise made by Governor Sanwo-Olu to complete the project in the last quarter of 2022, ahead of the commencement of passenger operations slated for the first quarter of 2023.
The rail system would be powered by electricity from an independent power plant to be purposely built for its operation.
Mixed reactions as since trailed the project of the Governor who is seeking a second term bid under the All Progressives Congress, APC platform.
A tweep, @emini_bozimo told the Governor to fix the electricity in the state before powering a rail line.
“Oga fix electricity first, let all lagosian enjoy 24hrs uninterrupted power supply b4 u power a rail line nonsense.”
@4GOODGEOFF tweeted: “The same railway they used to loot over 1.5 Billion Dollars into their pocket, 28 kilometer light rail line 😂😂😂 Lagos has suffered under this APC Govt.”
@AlabiOlalekan wanted to know if it was the state Governor or his political godfather, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that built it.
“My question is who built this project Tinubu or sanwo olu?”
“Mr Governor if so Light⚡️ go shock plenty people be that o, we too stubborn for this Lagos. Even if they barricade the rail lines, people would still find a way to cut it and pass through it. Lagos na wa 👋🏾,” @SGeZee reacted.
Another tweep, @Musa Mussadiq, however, said those commenting negatively on the project are from a region of Nigeria who disguised as South Westerners.
“Must of the negative comments comes from one section of Nigeria, some of them change their names so we won’t understand their motives. Good citizens of Lagos congratulations, we will love to see other part of Nigeria modeling Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, Kano & Rivers State.”
