IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Nigerian rapper and singer, YCee has reacted to his colleague, Wizkid, dissing rap genre in the music industry.
Recall that the Afrobeats Superstar had stirred the internet with his opinion on rap music in Nigeria on Friday.
In a recent interview, the award-winning singer declared the genre of music “dead and boring”.
The father of four stated further that he doesn’t listen to rap music because it’s “dead and boring”.
He added that rappers always follow the same method, and rap on the same beats and the same flow.
Wizkid made this known during an interview with 10 magazine.
He said: “Afrobeats is the new pop. I said two million copies in America off of one song! Even some American artists don’t have a diamond record. If I’m being honest. I don’t listen to any other genre of music anymore.
“I don’t listen to rap – that shit is boring to me. It’s dead now, it’s tired. These guys do the same shit, rap on the same beats and the same flows”.
His comment on Nigerian rap didn’t sit well with many and they dragged him for it.
Reacting to Wizkid’s comment, Ycee tweeted: “This thing wey Wiz Dey do no make sense. Rappers work so hard in an industry that doesn’t even favor them. No funding. No support. No nothing. And you wanna make fun of that? Nah G. That is not it.”
In another post, YCee gave examples of when rappers created or joined trends that popped such as Kizz Daniel’s Fvck you challenge, Mayorkun’s Geng challenge and more.
On a final note, YCee added that the failed rappers are the ones who have the most to say about it. He tweeted: “Failed rappers always have the most to say about the genre sha.”
Nollywood actress, Uche Ogbodo also took a swipe at Wizkid for dissing the rap industry.
Reacting, Uche questioned how Wizkid would say such about his people.
“Wizkid was wrong! Too wrong! How could you say such about your people! Who do us this thing sef? Which Babalaolwo mix this juju wey say Nigerians must hate fellow Nigerians! No loyalty to your people! To your country! Only selfishness everywhere! Abeg make all of them getat! This is not nice! All Nigerian rappers y’all are the biggest and the greatest. Abeg!”
In a post on her story, she pointed how his rival, Davido, wouldn’t make such statement.
“David would never do this! Lai Lai”.
@dremoDegreat tweeted: “Wizkid is an hypocrite. Before this fame he has he would beg the same Nigerian rapper he is talking about just to hear his music.
“He is an hypocrite and a pretender! We all know he is not mature, he doing it for the media and all.”
@preciousgbmt also tweeted: “No be lie we no get rapper for this country. None of them dey consistent.”
Another tweep, @OdPossible wrote: “People no get sense o. This very interview many people dragging Wiz never read am. I think he was try to say Afrobeats is the new wave. And for people saying it’s PR, interview was done weeks before #MLLE dropped 🤷”
“They deserve it because he wasn’t even coming for Nigeria Rappers and he clearly said he will be the wrong person to come after Nigeria rappers but because of your hate agenda towards him you bloggers choose to post rubbish,” Real Matters reacted.
@AkandeAkand6 who disagrees with Real Matters said: “Even if he is nt talking abt Nigerian rappers, e no make sense to dey rubbish anoda person work, everybody dey try him best, bcs he don make am, hi think he fit talk to anybody anyhow, pride comes before a fall 🤝”
@Excuminicato weighed in: “This is actually disappointing from Wizkid. This is a direct insult to MI, Olamide, Phyno and others.
“He should fix up and start acting like a “Big Wiz” not a “wizKID”
