ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Enugu State chapter, on Thursday, inaugurated new executives to pilot its affairs. for the next three years.
The newly inaugurated executives includes, Com Ngozi Ngene, chairperson; Com Amaka Uchennadiukwu, Vice Chairperson; Com Ogochukwu Chukwudi, Secretary.
Others are Com Mary-Ann Moore, Assistant Secretary, Com Sylvia Udegbunam, Financial Secretary and Com Okechi Lucy Ibelegbu, Treasurer.
The Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the Nigerian Union Of Journalists (NUJ) Press Center, Enugu, advised members of NAWOJ to ensure principles of fairness, balance and accuracy in their reportage.
Ugwuanyi who was represented by his Special Adviser on Information, Steve Oruruo, stressed on promotion of image of the country.
He said that: āWomen journalists have the power to promote and rescue the country from collapsing through their reportage.”
The Governor urged the female journalists to ensure that they report events by been factual in their reportage.
Ugwuanyi reiterated his commitment to uplift the living standard of women in the state saying āwe will continue to support women programs for better society.”
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Steve Oruruo urged the female Journalists to always ensure they report accurately, adding women have the will to influence the future of this nation.
He said: āThe women have huge task before them in rebuilding our nation, when this is done, the equality we are looking for, will be given to us.”
In her address also, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Enugu State chapter, Comrade Ngozi Ngene assured to unite all members of the association.
According to her: āThis is the beginning of the fruitful effort to unite us under one umbrella of this great association.
“We all know that a woman is always the victim of circumstances, war, flood, disaster and most especially domestic violence which affect life negatively in all ramifications and this is the reason NAWOJ formed coalition within different environment to address issues that affect women and children in all spheres of life.
āNAWOJ Enugu state is willing to partner with individuals, Corporate bodies, non governmental organizations and government at all levels on programs that impact lives in our society especially on women, youth and children.ā
