LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – A man identified as Aipoh John, has been remanded in the Oko Custodial Centre by the High Court sitting in Benin, for allegedly killing a woman, Precious Ikpikhumi.

The defendant was arraigned on one count of murder, punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap. 48, Vol. II, Law of the Defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976, as applicable to Edo State.

The prosecuting counsel, Orobosa Okunbor, told the court that on May 1, 2022, John, around Ugbowo area, Benin City, murdered Ikpikhumi.

The defendant was said to have accosted the lady while she was going to church and dragged her to an uncompleted building, where he allegedly killed her and left her body.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge, while his counsel requested a date to enable him to prepare for defence.

The presiding judge, Justice M. Isuele, however, remanded the accused and adjourned the case till 18 January, 2023, for hearing.
