ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- One person has been reportedly killed in a road crash that occurred on Thursday, before Ngozika Junction along the Awka-Onitsha Expressway, Anambra State.
Sources revealed that four people were involved in the accident, but three other persons escaped unhurt.
It was learnt that two vehicles were involved in the crash, a red/white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BRA107XA and a white Mercedes Benz truck with registration number: NSH394ZF.
Although the cause of the fatal crash was attributed to route violation, an eyewitness said the crash occurred when the truck driver was making a reverse from the road that leads to Maxbi Hotel to face one way, and he collided with the bus coming from Kwata junction of the road.
Confirming the accident, the Anambra State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi said two men and two eomen were involved in the crash.
He said that the FRSC rescue team from RS5.3 took the victim to Regina Caeli Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty, and the corpse deposited at the hospital morgue.
Irelewuyi explained that the rescue team on the ground managed the traffic to ensure obstruction caused by the crash was removed.
He also expressed his sympathy for the family of the deceased.
“Motorists should desist from reversing on the expressway and drive defensively giving full concentration to happenings on the road. Drive to arrive alive,” he said.
