LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nine persons have been rescued from a sinking building in the Maryland area of Lagos on Monday, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said.
NEMA’s statement reads, “NEMA received a distress alert on a sinking storey building where nine people are said to be trapped. The building is located at 47 Akinwunmi street, Akinwunmi North, Estate Mende, Maryland, Ikeja.”
Apart from affecting buildings with weak foundations and structures, the early morning downpour on Monday, 12 September, 2022 was also responsible for gridlock in most parts of Lagos State.
Commuters were seen stranded as vehicular movement had become quite clumsy as it rained non-stop all morning.
Apart from the congestion, the fact that school children were resuming after the long vacation made it really clumsy for vehicular and general movements on the major roads of the metropolis.
