ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The youth groups in the South East, South South, South West and Middle Belt region under the umbrella body of the Coalition of Southern and Middle Belt Youth Leaders Assembly (COSMBYLA), have commended Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, for establishing a security outfit for the State.
Governor Ortom had on Thursday, inaugurated the first batch of a 500-man Benue State Community Volunteer Guards, BSCVG, to tackle the security crisis in the State.
During the unveiling of the security outfit in Makurdi the State capital, the Governor pledged to legally procure AK-47, AK-49 and other sophisticated weapons for the volunteer guards.
The coalition, in a statement jointly signed by Goodluck Ibem, President General of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), Terrence Kuanum, Coordinator, Forum of Middle Belt Youth Presidents, Shittu Waheed, Coordinator, South West Youth Leaders Forum (SWYLF) and Ito Zokumor, President of South South Youth Forum (SSYF), commended the Governor for the move.
According to the statement, Governor Ortom displayed an uncommon attribute of a man who at all times, meant well for his people.
The coalition called on all stakeholders in the State to support the good move of the governor in bringing a lasting solution to the security challenges facing the State.
The statement read, “As youths leaders, we fully back and support Governor Samuel Ortom on this great feat and we urge him to continue to do his best for his people at all times.
“We call on the federal government and all relevant agencies to give Governor Ortom all the necessary support and cooperation if truly they want to get rid of insecurity in the country.
“We call on other governors in the country who are facing the same security challenges as Benue State to emulate Governor Ortom.”
