Abia Records Three Cases of Monkeypox

ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Abia State epidemiologist, Peace Nwogwugwu, says the State has recorded three cases of Monkeypox in recent weeks.

The state government following this, has cautioned residents to maintain all stipulated guidelines to prevent and control the spread of the disease in the state.

Nwogwugwu stated this while speaking in a Radio programme in Umuahia, the state capital.

She said out of the three confirmed cases, two however recovered rapidly.

She noted also that contact tracing and collection of samples for testing for those who came close to the cases had been done.

She said while government had activated all necessary response activities, residents had a role to play in the prevention and control of the ailment by adhering to stipulated public health directory.

She said as an ailment that spreads through contact, residents should avoid contact with infected people or persons suspected to have had contact with a confirmed cases.

She also tasked them on regular hand washing, avoid unnecessary gatherings or travel and maintain social distancing.

In an interview with Daily Sun, Nwogwugwu said not all cases of the epidemic in the state were active. He stressed that everything was being done to curtail the virus’ spread.
