OGUN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Gboyega Soyanwo passed away on Wednesday, much to the sorrow of the Lagos State Government.
Soyanwo had held the position of Deputy Chief of Staff since May 29, 2019, and was reappointed for a second term alongside the state governor, Obafemi Hamzat.
Governor Sanwo-Olu praised Soyanwo for his dedication, commitment, and selflessness in serving the state government.
In a statement, Sanwo-Olu described Soyanwo as not only his Deputy Chief of Staff, but also a brother, confidante, and believer in their shared vision of a Greater Lagos.
Soyanwo’s educational background included attending the prestigious Lagos Kings College from 1980 to 1985.

He obtained his first degree in Economics from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in 1992, and later earned an MBA in General Management from the Lagos Business School.
In his professional career, Soyanwo showcased strong competences and a proven track record in various sectors, including banking, finance, performance management, general administration, and strategy.
He held positions in well-known institutions such as Financial Services Consultants Limited, STACO Insurance Plc., National Bank of Nigeria Limited (now WEMA Bank Plc), Zenith Bank Plc., and Oceanic Bank International Plc (now Eco Bank Plc.).
In December 2009, he joined the First Class Group Limited as Director of Finance and Strategy after serving as the Group Head of Commercial Banking at Oceanic Bank International Plc.
Known for his passion for strategic leadership and effective management, Soyanwo led a team of young bankers in pioneering a Strategic Banking Unit that achieved optimal profitability amounting to billions of Naira within just 18 months.
This accomplishment is a testament to his result-oriented approach, innovative thinking, and resilience.

After an impressive 31-year career in banking and general management, Soyanwo was appointed as the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor.
He was also amongst others:
A Fellow of Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria (FCE),
An Honorary Senior Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (HCIB).
A Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (MCIPM)
A Member of the Institute of Directors (MIoD).
An Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (AMNIM)
Soyannwo died on Wednesday at the age of 55 after a brief illness.”
He is survived by a wife and two children
