LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mr. Mele Kyari has highlighted the crucial role that natural gas plays in driving economic growth and industrial development in Nigeria.
Mr Kyari spoke in Abuja at a book launch titled: “The Rise of Gas: From Gaslink to the Decade of Gas,” by Charles A. Osezua.
In a statement by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, Kyari emphasised the global acceptance of gas as a vital energy source that fuels economic growth and propels industrial activities.
Kyari who was represented by NNPC Ltd’s Head of Relationship and Stakeholder Management, Oluwakemi Olumuyiwa, Kyari also stressed the importance of documenting Nigeria’s gas sector.
The GCEO underscored the significance of prioritising natural gas production and supply, particularly in the context of geopolitical dynamics and energy security in the global economy.

With Nigeria’s abundant gas reserves exceeding 200 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) and the potential to reach 600 Tcf, Kyari emphasised the need for Nigeria to leverage this resource for sustainable development, energy security, and job creation.
He noted that the book aligns with the Federal Government’s “Decade of Gas” initiative, which aims to optimise Nigeria’s gas reserves for both domestic and international consumption.
Kyari added that NNPC Ltd. has played a leading role in advancing this agenda through strategic investments in critical gas infrastructure such as pipelines and processing facilities.
Engr. Charles Osezua, the author of the book, expressed gratitude to NNPCL for its support towards the launch.
Osezua described the unveiling of the book as a significant contribution to Nigeria’s energy literature, highlighting NNPCL’s commitment to fostering knowledge sharing and innovation within the gas industry.
Chairman of the Impact Investors Foundation and former Group Executive Director of NNPC, Engr. Afolabi Oladele, commended the book for its comprehensive insights into the gas value chain.
Oladele emphasised its relevance to policymakers, especially in the context of the global energy transition.
